Jyoti Meadows Apartments
Jyoti Meadows Apartments is located in Jeevan Bheemanagar, Bangalore and consists of around 45 households. While the complex already had a connection to the BWSSB piped water network, they found the supply both unreliable and inadequate. They were in a typical multi-sourcing scenario, relying on private borewells and tanker water in addition to the BWSSB. In this context, Jyoti Meadows association invested in both rooftop harvesting and recharge. The rooftop rainwater was directed to an exclusive rainwater sump. The overflow from the sump was routed to a recharge well. However, when the recharge well was dug, it was discovered that there is a high water table in the region – and now the recharge well is being used as a withdrawal well – an additional and cheaper source of water for the apartment complex. Water is pumped from the well into the rainwater tank during the non-rainy seasons and used for domestic purposes other than drinking and cooking.
