Premier management institute – Bangalore (work in progress)

This educational institution in Bangalore occupies 110 acres and was being supplied water by the BWSSB.  However, out of ecological consciousness and with the objective of reducing the water footprint of the campus, the institution embarked upon rainwater harvesting.  The campus had a very large landscape water demand.  The estimated daily demand for water is around 500 KL, with 300 KL of this demand towards landscape.  The campus also had three large open-wells

Biome engaged with this institution for the following:

  • To retrofit rooftop rainwater harvesting into existing hostel blocks (largest demand point within campus) by investing in plumbing modifications and new storage of the order of 80-100 KL in a phased manner.  The water thus harvested is used for domestic purposes of the hostel.
  • Reviving existing wells and reusing them as recharge wells.
  • Installation of new recharge wells in upstream catchments of the campus.
  • Integrating rooftop RWH with sump storage into the design of new campus developments, including faculty residence and hostel blocks.  These new projects will use rainwater for domestic purposes.
  • Evolution of a strategy to use shallow aquifer water for landscaping purposes.
