Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) is the act of capturing rainwater and either storing it for use or recharging it into the ground. RWH helps its users secure their water supply, reduce their dependence on piped/ tanker/ borewell water and can reduce the impact of monsoon flooding. An average household in Bangalore can sustain on rainwater for 3-4 months a year or more. This also helps recharging the borewells and giving them a “rest” and extra life.
Traditionally Bangalore’s lakes have been natural rainwater harvesters as they collect the run-off from our roads and open lands.
Now as per law in Bangalore, it is necessary for citizens to invest in rainwater harvesting. This is true for all 60 x 40 sites and all new construction happening on 30 x 40 sites.
